Below are some frequently asked questions, please email mary@fitnessoutside.com if you have other questions or would like to start training!

What can I expect?

We will work together from the beginning to determine the best exercise program for you. We will discuss goals, preferences, and interests and work to make you a committed exerciser who is ready to take control of your health. Expect to get out of your comfort zone and then learn to love that feeling! We will start at a level appropriate to the individual, and then progress to include cardio (anything that gets the heart rate up and keeps it up), strength training using body weight and some resistance bands, hand weights, and will mix in some bootcamp type exercises. I also firmly believe that a strong core (abs, back) is important for the overall function of the body, so we’ll always incorporate some abs/pilates into our workouts. Get ready for a little of everything!

Where will we work out if its not at a gym?

Since my focus is not only on getting you moving, but getting you moving OUTSIDE, we’ll agree upon a location to meet and train. There are tons of parks around the Shelby County area with everything we need to get in a good workout. There is also a great workout waiting for you on the streets of your own neighborhood. I believe variety is the key to sticking with a program and also avoiding injury. So while we may do circuits at the park one week, we may focus on pilates/corework in your home when the weather is bad or time is a factor. I am here to show you how to make exercise a priority, and will always work to acommodate your busy schedule.

What do I need to get started?

The only requirement to start is a willingness to take control of your health and a decent pair of athletic shoes. Always bring water to work out and maybe a towel as well! I will supply any extra equipment (bands, weights) or mats. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move and stretch.

How do buddy sessions work?

If you have a friend or group of friends, we can arrange a small group fitness class at your location. This class is $50 per hour and can be divided among up to 10 people, making it a very cost effective option. Though individual preferences may not be a focus, a group setting can be very motivating and we will still have an excellent workout that promises to burn calories and reduce stress. If you have a group of friends and would like to set up a small group class or buddy session, please contact me via email or call me at 999-4067.

I have no childcare, how can I make time to work out?

Trust me, I have experience in this area. While it requires a lot of work to squeeze in exercise around a baby or toddler’s schedule, it is possible and can be FUN! The demands of mothering require you to stay on top of your health and manage stress. I can help you design a program around your schedule and create opportunities for getting back into shape. It can work, and in a way that guarantees you get the most out of your time. I am here to help you get rid of the excuses and reclaim your body and mind!! I have never met a child who did not like being outside or playing with their mom. Flexibility is key, along with an openness to embracing a whole new way of exercising.
